That's the picture most people fall for with The Getaway, and it's sold as a tiny home on wheels. The seller supplies a new trailer and fits the home to it before collection, so what you collect is ready to be moved on its own chassis.
Going onto a permanent site instead? Take it without the trailer for $85,000 and have it craned or tilt-trayed into place. Same home, same inclusions.
It was built by its owner, a builder by trade, as his own off-grid retreat over 2024 and 2025. The container conversion is architect-designed, and licensed trades certified the electrical, plumbing and waterproofing, with the certificates included.
The shell is a recycled 20ft container in matte black steel, with black awning windows rated to bushfire BAL 19, which counts on a rural block. Inside, wide timber boards line the walls and ceiling, so it reads as a cabin rather than a converted box.
It's a single studio room. The bed sits at one end with a window on each side, so the outlook is the first thing you see in the morning. After dark, a projector screen and blockout blinds turn the same room into a cinema.
It runs completely off-grid: nine solar panels and three batteries for power, gas hot water off two 45kg bottles, a 5,000L tank and pump for water, and a certified composting toilet. No mains or black-water connection needed, so wherever you site it, it runs just as it does now.

The structure is a recycled 20ft shipping container. It currently sits on steel stumps and bearers, and is sold with a new trailer that the seller fits before collection. A container is a sealed steel shell engineered to be lifted and moved, which is why it suits life on a trailer. The conversion is architect-designed, with a full permit drawing set, and the work here went into making it live like a house.
The walls are built up in layers: the container skin, insulation, 15mm plywood, then a timber lining. Walls and ceiling are lined in wide timber boards and the bathroom is finished in a pale blush render, so the interior reads as a cabin rather than a converted box.
Outside, the container is clad in painted steel in matte black, with black aluminium awning windows rated to BAL 19. On a rural site, bushfire-rated glazing is not a detail to gloss over, and the windows open for cross-ventilation.
The home carries compliance certificates for electrical, plumbing and waterproofing work, and a smoke alarm is installed. Internal ceiling height is 2275mm. The full drawing set and all certificates are available to review before purchase, which is the kind of documentation that makes a remote purchase reasonable rather than a leap.
Sold with a new trailer fitted before collection, and with its furniture, appliances and off-grid systems in place, so it can be sited and used from day one.

What you bring
The kitchenette does sink, fridge and coffee. There is no cooktop or oven, so plan for a benchtop cooker or a barbecue on the deck. There is no laundry. This is a retreat, and it is set up like one.
The deck is included in the sale and is dismantled for transport. The seller built it and can assist with taking it apart and rebuilding it at your end for an agreed fee.
Prefer it without the trailer? If the home is going onto a permanent site, you can buy it as it stands for $85,000, with every other inclusion unchanged. It's then moved by crane or tilt-tray onto a truck and placed on your site, which is standard for a container structure. Happy to talk through which option suits your block.
The merbau deck is included in the sale. It comes apart for transport, and the seller built it, so he can dismantle it and rebuild it on your site for an agreed fee.
The seller can also assist with disconnecting services and loading for collection, priced to the job.
The Getaway is sold with a new trailer, which the seller fits before collection. The photos show the home on its current steel stumps, before the trailer is fitted. Moving it is arranged through a professional transport operator. If you take it without the trailer, it's moved by crane or tilt-tray onto a truck instead, which is standard for a container structure.
It's currently sited in the Victorian High Country near Benalla, around three hours from Melbourne. The seller has advised the access road is not in good condition, so the route should be checked and confirmed as suitable by you and your transport contractor before collection is booked.
The seller will assist with loading at collection. Once the home has been collected, responsibility passes to you and your transport contractor. The merbau deck is dismantled for transport, with the seller available to assist for an agreed fee.
At your end you'll need a level site. The solar system, batteries, water tank and composting toilet all travel with the home, so it runs as it runs now without a mains connection. The home is sold without a builder's warranty, so arrange your own building assessment before purchase. Inspections are by appointment, and remote walkthroughs are available for interstate buyers.
